Pratt 은 1887년에 비즈니스맨 Charles pratt 에 의해 설립된 사립 대학으로 브루클린과 맨하탄 2개의 캠퍼스를 가지고 있다.

뉴욕의 아트스쿨로서는 유일하게 아름다운 학교 캠퍼스를 소유하고 있다. 본교는 브루클린 캠퍼스이며 학위과정은 모두 이곳에서 진행되고 있고 맨하탄 캠퍼스는 ASS, AOS의 과정들만 운영되고 있다. Architecture, Art&Design ,information &library sciences, liveral Arts & Sciences등의 학부로 구성된 우리의 종합대학교와 비슷한 체제를 가지고 있다.

학교의 모토 Poetric pragmatism은 인문학과 과학, 예술의 감성을 갖춘 시대에 기여하는 예술가,전문가를 양성하는 것을 목표로 하고 있다.인테리어,건축분야에 강세를 보이고 있어 미국에서 해마다 10위권 안에 드는 우수한 미술 대학 중의 하나이다.
